What you’re watching: kids try out to sing in the choir in assembly.

So, a month after I arrived at my school, the music teacher decided it was a good time to take 5 months leave. (Not uncommon for teachers to do—they can take up to 6months leave—i think—if they have a child under 18yrs old)

Anyway, I was quite sad as I had heard from the previous ETA that this teacher was the bee’s knees. She finally came back in December and I’ve been a happier camper ever since. Her music room is a haven—an oasis—in my crazy, hectic school life. The children seem instantly soothed by her presence and show her the UTMOST respect. In fact, it would seem that her role in their lives almost takes a turn for the religious. They treat her as Guru. As someone who will bless them and teach them. It’s quite beautiful. Leaving and entering they bend at her feet, holding their hearts with one hand and bring their other from her feet to their chest to their mouth and to their fore head. In turn, she places a hand on their head acknowledging them and silently saying God bless you.

But the music room isn’t just a place of quiet and serenity. It’s a place of activity, too! Singing, dancing, laughing, playing. It’s a place wear shoes are not to be worn—and ok, consequently it can be a teensy bit smelly at times (I blame the boys).

Spending my off periods in the music room makes my day just a LITTLE brighter. Especially when the kids sing like in this video. It’s the cutest and funniest thing. They don’t really tease each other when they mess up. But they are oh so cute. Ma’am will sing a line and they have to repeat. Those who make the cut sit on the ground and become the choir. Those who don’t sit back down in the outer ring.

Right now, I’m spending ample time in the music room as I learn a Rajhastani dance for next thursday. There’s to be a HUGE function with many songs and dances for my school’s founders day. It’s gonna be great!!! :)
