Ho Ho Ho?
So, my Christmas show extravaganza went down without a hitch. JK there was many a hitch to be had on Christmas eve ‘11. What with some of my kids just not showing up on the day that we’ve been practicing weeks for! I have a sneaking feeling they never told their moms and when they did the night before, mom was like..sorry kid, you’re not going to school tomorrow, we’re...

Joanna in Sri Lanka? Joanna in SRI LANKA!
Tomorrow, I leave for over a week in Sri Lanka. YIPPPPPEEEEEEE. Going down, down, down, down. All the way to Colombo. This trip is for work and I will be mostly listening to talks and making presentations/attending workshops, but for the first 3-4ish days before the conference, I will be living it up. First, going to see some awesome ruins in Sigiriya (central Sri Lanka) Then down, south to one of...

Things I say daily
Student: Ma'am. Sorry Ma'am. Please ma'am.
Joanna Ma'am: Nope. No. Sorry. Nope. Stay out here.
Student: Please ma'am. Please. Last chance ma'am.
Joanna Ma'am: NO. Stop talking. NO. I don't want to hear you speaking. Be quiet.
Student: (holds ears) Please, ma'am. Please. I no make talking anymore.
Joanna Ma'am: NO. I don't believe you. Why? Because EVERY class you say this. Every time you say sorry, ma'am. I DON'T BELIEVE YOU. You clearly are not interested in learning so you can stand out here.
Student: (probably not completely understanding my spiel) Sorry, ma'am. PLEASE ma'am. LAST CHANCE, MA'AM. PLEASEEEE.
Joanna Ma'am: FOR THE LAST TIME, NO. I do not want to talk to you. BE QUIET. (in between interruption.) Nope. No. shh. And I do not want to see you running around out here or I WILL take you to the principal.
Then follows two minutes of obedience and then a recycling of essentially the same lines. OH, LIFE.

Anonymous asked: HEY. This isn't a question. Just want to say I stumbled upon your blog and it's super cool stuff. I like how you write and like how you're really trying to get a feel for India. The blind student recount was especially cool. Take care. By the way, I recommend collecting matchboxes, there are some crazy beautiful matchbox designs that I think you'll enjoy :)
